Cleaning a Ceramic Cooktop

One of the areas of your home that requires regular upkeep is the stove or cooktop. If you have a “standard” stove, this is pretty easy—you just wipe it down with a damp rag and can use a multipurpose cleaner for bigger messes. However, ceramic or glass cooktops are rising in popularity. How do you keep this surface clean? We’ve put together a few tips that can help.
- Use a sponge or soft cloth. This isn’t a product you want to “scour.” Choose a soft cloth or a soft sponge for cleaning. Items like the “Magic Eraser” are not recommended for this surface.
- You don’t need much. In most cases, you can wipe down with warm water and a tiny bit of mild dish soap. Make sure you rinse by wiping with a clean damp cloth. If you want to give your cooktop a shine, consider adding a bit of vinegar to warm water and wiping, then dry with a streak-free cloth.
- Special cleaners are available. Finally, you can purchase cleaning products specifically designed for using on a ceramic cooktop. Using one of these can make the process really easy. Just make sure you review the directions on the product and take note of any specific issues with your stovetop.
If you do utilize the assistance of regular cleaning services, make sure you inform the cleaner that you do have a ceramic cooktop, so the cleaning company can bring the right supplies and prepare to get this surface clean and fresh for you.
