Things to do to honor National Cleaning Week

Cleaning

National Cleaning Week happens every year during March, to encourage everyone to clean their homes, closets, storage lockers, and offices. It’s no surprise this festivity occurs in the spring, as going back centuries, various pagan and religious cultures used this time to clean out the old and refresh their home in anticipation of a new season. Here are some things you can do this week.

1) Reflect on the cleanliness of your space

Look around your home or office, and think about these questions: what do you love about it? Is there something you want to change? Is it as clean and organized as you would like? Do you wish you had more space? You can then list your likes and dislikes.

2) Get clean and organized

Take advantage of National Cleaning Week to stop the cycle of things getting messy and start getting organized. Follow these recommendations to make cleaning week less intimidating:

Tackle one room at a time
Start by removing the clutter
Use the keep, donate, toss system, and sort through every room. If there is no home for an item, or it is broken or defective it must go.
Don’t let that donate or toss pile hang around, take this time to go straight to the donation center.
Start from the top (ex. dusting the ceiling) and work down
Don’t be afraid to move furniture
Before reinstating any items, it is always best to do a deep clean immediately to reach all the nooks and crannies where dirt likes to hide.
The key to making things easy to clean is to do it with intention.

3) Think about long-term cleaning projects

Now that you’ve reflected and done some cleaning, it’s time to think of the longer-term things you want to tackle. Perhaps things like planning a yard or office sale to get rid of unused or old items, or deciding on doing a renovation, a creating chore chart for every family member, or budgeting to hire a professional cleaner to help you out on a more regular.

National Cleaning Week is an excellent opportunity to explore and set some personal cleaning goals to keep your home or office clean and organized all year round. Don’t forget to contact us to learn more about our professional cleaning services and schedule an appointment!
