How to Clean Luxury Items

Luxury furniture are made with the best materials possible whether it’s leather or a fine silk. And these items are designed to get used even if it’s infrequent. Add into that the fact that furniture gets exposed to the elements due to its static nature and it’s inevitable that they’re going to gather dust and dirt that’s brought in from the outside. Dirt is going to get into the home no matter how clean a penthouse in Manhattan is kept. Regular cleaning services go a long way towards keeping the items clean and extends the life of each piece in order to maximize their value.
Maintaining Delicate Fibers
Quality silks and cottons feel luxurious and delicate under the hand but are much sturdier than they seem on the surface. They’ve been used in upholstery for millennia with success and have changed little throughout their existence. These fibers are also easily cleaned with vacuum cleaners and gentle cleaning agents such as Woolite.
Start cleaning with a flexible hose vacuum cleaner and use the rectangular head. Go over the item of furniture lightly. Don’t let the suction draw the fabric up. If there’s a low power setting on the vacuum, use it. For stains, spray Woolite or manufacturer-approved cleaning agent on the stain and gently blot with a paper towel, then let dry. Keep people from using the furniture until it’s dry.
Leather and Wool Furniture
Wool isn’t used that frequently due to its difficult-to-clean nature. It’s best cleaned by regular services as the service has cleaners that can lift stains from wool without ruining the fibers.
Leather needs regular maintenance and cleaning to keep it from drying and cracking. Before cleaning with a leather cleaner, test the cleaner on a spot that won’t ever be visible to the eye. If there’s no stain or adverse reaction, go ahead and clean the couch. Make sure to use a conditioner on the leather afterwards to keep it supple and flexible along with extending its life.
